Seventeen year-old Montegomery Lewis, a student of the Knockalva
High School in Hanover appeared in the Ramble Resident Magistrates
Court on Thursday to answer to a charge of murder. Lewis was
arrested and charged after he allegedly stabbed to death Derrick
Dennis, a 50 year-old bus driver with who he allegedly had
an heated dispute over bus fare.
According to reports, Lewis claimed that he was overcharged
after he took the bus from Montego Bay to Ramble, the community
which houses the Knockalva High School. It is understood that
the student requested an additional $20 on his change.
A tussle then ensued between the youngster and the bus driver
during which a knife was brought into play. Dennis was stabbed
to death. On the other hand, it is reported that Lewis is
claiming that during the struggle he sustained a fractured
nose.
Students of the Knockalva High School have complained that
they are constantly being overcharged by bus drivers, who
claim that they must pay the full fares as they oftentimes
behave like big men and women.

Authority has launched an investigation into this matter.
In the meantime, there are growing concern over the conduct
of students, especially from Knockalva. Only recently the
Ramble police recovered a very large quantity of knives, machetes,
and other cutting implement from several students of the school.
Some were taken into custody in connection with an informal
brothel which operated in close proximity to the school premises.
